BigCommerce Appoints First Chief Technology Officer and New Head of Sales

SaaS industry veterans Brian Dhatt and Tod Klubnik join executive leadership team to drive product innovation and continued adoption of the BigCommerce platform

AUSTIN, Texas — October 19, 2016 — Today BigCommerce announced the appointment of Brian Dhatt as the company’s first chief technology officer and Tod Klubnik as senior vice president of global sales. As CTO, Dhatt will lead a global engineering team of more than 100 across offices in Austin, San Francisco and Sydney, while Klubnik will take charge of the company’s sales organization to accelerate adoption of the BigCommerce platform.

“With Forrester expecting SaaS to account for 66% of ecommerce spending in the U.S. by 20191, there is accelerating demand for cloud-based ecommerce platforms like BigCommerce,” said Brent Bellm, CEO at BigCommerce. “Brian and Tod bring a wealth of expertise to the company and will be integral as we continue to enhance the platform and assist our customers at every stage of their ecommerce growth.”

Dhatt joins BigCommerce from Borderfree, an ecommerce SaaS company acquired by Pitney Bowes, where he led all aspects of product and technology as the company’s chief technology officer through a successful IPO in 2014 and acquisition in 2015. Prior to joining Borderfree in March 2013, he served as vice president of engineering and product for Jetsetter and Gilt City, both under the Gilt Groupe umbrella until Jetsetter’s 2013 acquisition by Tripadvisor. Additionally, Dhatt co-founded global media and technology company POPSUGAR, and previously led technology efforts for leading companies such as BestBuy.com, Restoration Hardware and Estée Lauder.

“The pace with which things change in today’s technology landscape is quicker than ever, and in order to keep up, retailers need an ecommerce platform provider that is continuously iterating and innovating in ways that move the needle in the eyes of the end-customer,” said Brian Dhatt. “Nowhere have I seen this commitment to the customer and their unique challenges more present than within the walls of BigCommerce, and I look forward to leading an engineering organization that continues to push the boundaries of innovation.”

Klubnik brings to BigCommerce more than 20 years’ senior leadership experience at global software organizations. Most recently, Klubnik served as senior vice president of sales and business development at PeopleAdmin, where he was instrumental in driving significant company revenue growth year-over-year. Previously, he led the SaaS sales and channel organizations for Dell, and served as executive vice president of worldwide field operations at MessageOne prior to the company’s acquisition by Dell. In the role, Klubnik built the sales, business development and channels organizations resulting in a substantial increase in annual revenues and numerous million-dollar deals. Klubnik has also held executive positions with PlanView, Zilliant and PTC.

“Ecommerce is the future of retail, and platform providers must understand the changing needs of today’s retail businesses and their customers,” said Tod Klubnik. “BigCommerce not only understands these needs, but is in a unique position to offer the most feature-rich, flexible SaaS platform in the market.”

The appointments of Dhatt and Klubnik are the most recent executive hires for BigCommerce during 2016. In July, the company announced Jimmy Duvall as chief product officer. Earlier in 2016, BigCommerce also appointed Jeff Mengoli as general counsel and Debbie Shotwell as senior vice president of people and culture.
