Managing growth across multiple storefronts and product categories

Discount Pool Supply runs a growing ecommerce business alongside five+ warehouse locations, managing over 6,000 SKUs across a wide range of pool and outdoor living products. From chemicals and filters to above-ground pools and seasonal essentials, their catalog is both broad and complex.

As the business expanded, so did the demands on its ecommerce infrastructure. With Acumatica ERP at the centre of operations, the team needed a platform that could support seamless integration, scalable growth, and faster execution across multiple storefronts.

BigCommerce provided the foundation to unify operations, simplify expansion, and give the team the flexibility to move faster — without the limitations of their previous platform.

CHALLENGE

A platform that limited growth and flexibility.

Discount Pool Supply had outgrown its Magento platform long before making a change. While the platform continued to process orders, its monolithic architecture created a ceiling that limited what the business could achieve next.

Every new growth initiative, from launching additional storefronts to improving customer experience, ran into the same roadblock: “We can’t do that on our current stack.”

The limitations showed up across both operations and customer experience:

  • Unpredictable hosting costs that remained high regardless of revenue performance

  • No scalable path to launch additional storefronts without duplicating infrastructure and maintenance

  • Heavy reliance on developers for content updates, slowing down merchandising and campaigns

  • Limited search and filtering capabilities across a 6,000+ SKU catalog with complex attributes

  • No ability to support bilingual experiences for French-speaking Canadian customers

These constraints made it difficult to execute on key growth initiatives. SEO efforts were delayed, expansion into new verticals was cost-prohibitive, and entering new markets was not feasible within the existing architecture.

“On Magento, nothing was simple. Even basic content updates required developer involvement, creating bottlenecks that slowed the entire business down,” shared Mitchell Kideckel, Owner of Discount Pool Supply.

At the same time, Acumatica sat at the centre of the business, managing inventory, pricing, and fulfilment across both ecommerce and physical warehouse locations. Any future ecommerce solution would need to integrate deeply with this system to maintain operational continuity.

SOLUTION

A composable architecture built for scale.

To move beyond Magento, Discount Pool Supply evaluated multiple platforms, including Shopify Plus. The decision ultimately came down to one requirement: seamless integration with Acumatica ERP, which powers the company’s core operations.

With that in mind, the team partnered with B2Bstorefront to implement a composable, headless architecture with BigCommerce as the commerce engine.

BigCommerce now handles all core commerce functionality, including catalog, pricing, checkout, and order management across storefronts. This SaaS foundation removed the need to manage infrastructure while providing the reliability and scalability required for growth.

By decoupling the frontend from the backend, the team gained the ability to evolve the customer experience independently of backend systems — enabling faster innovation without replatforming.

“With BigCommerce as the commerce engine, the team finally had a foundation built for where the business was going — not where it had been,” said Mitchell.

Seamless ERP integration as the operational foundation.

With the architecture in place, integrating Acumatica ERP became the critical next step. As the system of record for inventory, pricing, and fulfilment, it needed to operate in real time across all storefronts.

Through BigCommerce’s integration capabilities, data now flows automatically between ecommerce and in-store operations. Inventory, pricing, and order data stay continuously in sync, ensuring accuracy across every channel.

“With Acumatica natively integrated with BigCommerce, there was no need for a third-party connector. Inventory, pricing, and orders are now synced real time across every channel,”“explained Mitchell.

This unified data layer eliminates manual processes and reduces operational friction. The team can manage orders, inventory, and fulfilment across multiple locations with greater efficiency, while customers benefit from accurate availability and pricing at every touchpoint.

Empowering teams with content, search, and performance tools.

For Discount Pool Supply, content is not just a supporting element — each product detail page functions as a standalone landing page. This made rich content management a critical requirement when evaluating a new architecture.

Storyblok CMS gives the merchandising team direct control over landing pages, product detail pages, and promotional content. Instead of relying on developer tickets, the team can now build and publish rich, SEO-friendly content independently — a critical advantage for seasonal campaigns and product launches.

“Before, a simple content update could take days by the time it worked through the development queue. Now our merchandising team just does it themselves — it sounds small but it's been a huge shift for how we work,” said Mitchell.

Algolia powers advanced search and discovery, introducing faceted filtering across 6,000+ SKUs with varying attributes. Customers can now quickly find the right products, improving navigation and overall shopping experience.

On the frontend, a statically generated storefront delivers fast, consistent performance by serving pages through a CDN. This approach not only improves speed and stability during peak traffic, but also insulates the commerce backend from traffic spikes, bot activity, and increasing load from AI-driven crawlers.

Together, these tools give both technical and non-technical teams the ability to move faster, optimise the customer experience, and support ongoing growth without added complexity.

RESULTS

From constraints to scalable growth.

Since moving to BigCommerce, Discount Pool Supply has transformed from a single-storefront operation into a scalable, multi-storefront business. The team now runs three distinct storefronts from a single backend, each with its own brand identity and SEO strategy.

Key improvements include:

  • The ability to launch new storefronts with minimal incremental cost

  • Bilingual support, unlocking the Canadian market

  • Faster content updates without developer dependency

  • Improved product discovery across 6,000+ SKUs

“We went from one storefront that was holding us back to three storefronts running off a single backend; and we did it without tripling our costs or our workload,” shared Mitchell.

Operationally, unpredictable hosting costs have been replaced with a flat SaaS model, allowing the team to reinvest budget into SEO and growth initiatives.

At the same time, a statically generated frontend has improved performance and stability, eliminating concerns around traffic spikes and peak season demand.

The result is a more agile business that can scale, expand, and execute faster — with confidence during its most critical revenue periods.

LOOKING AHEAD

Building on a flexible foundation for continued growth.

With a scalable, composable foundation in place, Discount Pool Supply is positioned to expand into new markets, verticals, and storefronts with ease.

The team can now launch new experiences, optimise SEO strategies, and test growth initiatives without the cost and complexity that once slowed them down. What was previously a limitation is now a competitive advantage.

With centralised operations, seamless ERP integration, and full control over content and customer experience, the business can move faster and adapt to changing market demands with confidence.

As growth continues, BigCommerce provides the flexibility and stability needed to support long-term expansion — turning ecommerce into a true engine for scale.

“Now that our tech stack is in a good place, we're not thinking about our platform anymore. We're focused on growth, and that's exactly where we want to be,” remarked Mitchell.
